Class Description

Tuesdays @ 5:45 - 8:15 pm, March 31 - May 5 with Adelaide Foden-Vencil ***Clayroom Members Only*** Delve into the science and beauty of glaze mixing! This course will be four weeks of instruction centered around glazes: what they are, how they are made, application methods, glaze defects, experimentation and combination. Students will reserve time to use the glaze mixing room between class meetings to ensure safety for all. You will be permitted to mix a 1,000 gram batch of your favorite glaze. By the end of this course, you will have a basic understanding of all things glaze, both technical and creative! Week 1: Introduction to Glazes: line blends, recipe research, Glazy.com deep dive, & assigning glaze room usage Week 2: Glaze test tile review #1, common glaze defects & how to avoid them Week 3: Glaze test tile review #2 & second glaze mixing round (students will choose their additives based on previous results) Week 4: Glaze test tile review #3 & third glaze mixing round Week 5: Glaze test tile review #4 & fourth glaze mixing round Week 6: Potluck & "Glazing Buffet," voting on glazes for staff to consider adding to studio! *Note: Students will need to create pieces to glaze outside of designated class time "Adelaide was great! She made the class a lot of fun!" - Clayroom Student Required Materials: - Respirator - Notebook - Ten pint-sized containers with lids Class includes: - 1/2 a bag of clay (12.5 lbs) - 4-weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes

Policies

Class Fees & Schedule: - Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and kiln firings - Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay - Classes are subject to change if the minimum student quota (7) isn't met - Class switches will only be available one week prior to the commencement of classes and are based on the capacity of classes at time of request Attendance: - It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first class - If a class meeting is missed, students can drop into an available class on Clayroom SM's Makeup class spreadsheet if space permits (limit two drop-in's per class meeting) - For adult classes, participants must be at least 14 years of age Personal Belongings: - Any items left behind 30 days after the final class meeting may be discarded without notice Refund Policy: - A refund (minus $20 processing fee) or credit in full will be granted if a cancellation request is received at least TWO WEEKS prior to the day of class - For cancellation requests made less than two weeks before the class start date, a credit (no refund) MAY be granted ONLY if your spot can be filled - No refunds or credits will be granted after attending first class meeting - Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes Student Open Studio Hours: Monday - Thursday: 10AM - 6PM Friday - Sunday: 10AM - 9PM Hours subject to change upon five days' notice
