Vessel Embellishment with Punch!

Class Description

Join Clayroom San Mateo for this highly anticipated one day decorative workshop led by renowned potter and sculptor Chanakarn Semachai (a.k.a. Punch), all the way from Bangkok, Thailand! Friday June 7, 2024: 11AM - 5PM w/ 1 hour lunch break from 1PM - 2PM In this workshop, Punch will demonstrate a variety of handles, finials, sculptural accents, and her unique decorative approach to plates, mugs, and goblets through the use of underglazes. Her in-depth demonstration will be followed by hands-on work time for students to explore additive techniques and surface decoration. **Participants are required to bring AT LEAST ONE unfired basic 8" tall form completed outside of class (tall cup, jar, vase, cylinder, goblet, bottle - anything you like but keep it simple!) This piece should be a little wetter than leather hard, so wet clay additions can be made** What’s included: - B-Mix Clay for decorative additions - Underglazes (can also bring your own!) - Nichrome Wire Bangkok-born and raised, Chanakarn Semachai (Punch) is a ceramic artist and educator. Chanakarn graduated with her Bachelor in Fine and Applied Arts Degree in 2012 from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, USA. Chanakarn’s artwork focuses on the full spectrum of identity and multiculturalism. She also explores the possibility of blending elements of sculptural and functional work together, utilizing color and ornamentation to express personal narratives. Through these elements, and a dash of humor, she hopes to create special moments between her artwork and those who enjoy them. Her work has been shown internationally, including in Thailand, Germany, Taiwan, China, and the United States. She is currently a faculty member at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, where she teaches full-time creative ceramics. Policies

Refund Policy: - A refund or credit will be granted (minus $20 processing fee) if a cancellation request is received at least TWO WEEKS prior to the day of class - For cancellation requests placed 48 hours or less prior to class date, a credit (no refund) MAY be granted ONLY if your spot can be filled - If multi-day workshop, no refunds or credits are granted after attending the first day - Try Days or Workshops missed due to failure to attend will not be credited Picking Up Artwork: Pieces made in Try Days take a minimum of four weeks to fully complete (bisque and glaze firing). Once they are finished, a staff member will notify each participant via email to come pick up the individually bagged artwork. In-person pick up is required, we do not ship.
