Class Description
Join Clayroom San Mateo for this highly anticipated two day workshop led by nerikomi master, Courtney Hassmann! This hands-on workshop will focus on the Japanese technique known as "nerikomi," which involves mixing and pressing multiple colors of clay together to create designs. Students will learn how to create a repeating pattern with different clay colors, enhancing their work with color and unique style. Day 1: Monday, June 16: 5:30 - 9:00PM Day 2: Tuesday, June 17: 5:30 - 9:00PM Day one will focus on prepping the clay. Courtney will demo making colored clay using her personal method and then we will supply 3 (1.5 lb.) balls to each student with three different color options (avocado, khaki, and iron brown.) From there, different techniques will be shown, giving students options on what pattern they would like to create, ultimately choosing two different ones to try. Day two will focus on constructing pieces. This is super important to do correctly to avoid cracking/separation between the squares. We will set aside some space for these pieces to slow dry under wrapping. Clayroom San Mateo staff will glaze pieces clear for non members. Refund Policy: - A refund (minus $20 processing fee) or credit in full will be granted if a cancellation request is received at least TWO WEEKS prior to the day of class - For cancellation requests made less than two weeks before the class start date, a credit (no refund) MAY be granted ONLY if your spot can be filled - If multi-day workshop, no refunds or credits are granted after attending the first day - Try Days or Workshops missed due to failure to attend will not be credited Picking Up Artwork: Pieces made in Try Days take a minimum of four weeks to fully complete (bisque and glaze firing). We will email you once everything is complete and is ready to be picked up, please check your spam folder just in case! In-person pick up is required, we do not ship.
