Please note this is NOT A PICK-UP/DROP-OFF firing service - your participation is MANDATORY. Participants are REQUIRED TO ASSIST with prep, loading & unloading, wood prep, clean-up & kiln shifts. There will always be an experienced person on shift. Pay attention to loading dates & be sure to have your ceramic works onsite on or before loading dates. You must sign up for a minimum of 2-4, 6 hour firing shifts & 2-3, 2 hour wood splitting shifts. Clean up is mandatory after kiln unload. You may leave the property outside of your designated shifts. Places To Stay: Free camping is available on the property - access to bathroom/shower & shared kitchen, please let us know if you plan to camp on site at checkout. Not a camper? There are several places to stay in the area - rec's to be sent after registration. Clay Bodies: Much of the outcome in atmospheric firings depends on the clay body - use clays which are highly refractory. All clay bodies MUST BE CONE 10 or higher. We suggest WSO, Porcelains, Bmix Woodfire, & Stoneware, ONE 25# bag of clay included! What to Bring: Bring extra pieces to fire, this gives flexibility when loading & ensures maximum work in the kiln. Participants MUST be flexible on placement of work in the kiln. Glazes: We recommend that you do not glaze your work or only use liner glazes. If you do wish to glaze, a selection of traditional options will be provided.
