January 25 & 26 2026 - OPENS 11/21 @ 11AM
Class Description
SIGN UPS OPEN NOVEMBER 21st @ 11AM In this 2 day, hands-on workshop students will learn how to utilize slab, pinch-pot, slip, & stencil techniques to create their own wall-hanging ice cream cone sculpture with Ashley Bevington! Sunday (January 25th): 11am-5pm w/ 1 hour lunch break Monday (January 26th): 11am-5pm w/ 1 hour lunch break Day 1: Students will be encouraged to bring sketches of animals they wish to sculpt or work intuitively on their designs. The instructor will guide each student individually, offering feedback and creative suggestions as they begin their pieces. A demonstration will follow on how to mix whipped cream clay to the ideal consistency and how to pipe it onto the sculpture. The group will then discuss potential “toppers,” such as a cherry or other decorative elements, though students may also choose to leave their sculptures plain. The instructor will also show how to create “jimmy” style sprinkles, after which students will collaborate to produce a shared batch of sprinkles for the group. By the end of Day 1, students will aim to complete their wet sculptures and make a set of jimmy sprinkles. Those who finish early may choose to create a ceramic mug. All finished pieces will be left to dry overnight to prepare them for underglazing on Day 2. Day 2: The instructor will begin by underglazing their demonstration piece and will then show students how to make “printed” specialty sprinkles using custom templates and stained clay. A demonstration will follow on how to attach both types of sprinkles using glaze on bisqued sculptures. Students will prepare their work for firing by ensuring all pieces are dry and properly organized. After bisque firing, students will glaze their sculptures and attach sprinkles independently (instructor will demo how).
