Class Description

Mondays @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm May 13 - June 17 with Isabella Comai *Required Materials: - Respirator - Notebook - Ten pint-sized containers with lids - Variety of paint brushes - Spoons for mixing *Note: Students will need to create pieces to glaze outside of designated class time Delve into the science and beauty of glaze mixing, led by Alfred University educated ceramic artist Isabella Comai! This course will be six weeks of instruction centered around glazes: what they are, how they are made, application methods, glaze defects, experimentation and combination. Students will leave this class with a basic understanding of all things glaze, both technical and creative! Week 1: Introduction to Glazes: What are they and how are they made? Week 2: Mixing a glaze & experimentation (students will be assigned a variety of colorants & additives to gain a wide understanding of materials) Week 3: Creative glaze application (wax & tape resist, brushing, dipping & pouring) Week 4: Glaze test tile review, common glaze defects, & second glaze mixing round (students will choose their additives based on previous results) Week 5: Workday - using your new glazes! Week 6: Potluck & glazing party Class includes: - 25 lbs of clay - 6-weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes

Class Fees & Schedule: - Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and kiln firings - Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay - Classes are subject to change if the minimum student quota (7) isn't met - Class switches will only be available one week prior to the commencement of classes and are based on the capacity of classes at time of request Attendance: - It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first class - No “make-up” classes are given but drop-in's are welcome in another class if space permits - For adult classes, participants must be at least 14 years of age Personal Belongings: - Any items left behind 30 days after the final class meeting may be discarded without notice Refund Policy: - Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable - Refund or credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a cancellation request is received at least TWO WEEKS prior to the start of class - Cancellation requests 48 hours or less than to start class, a credit (no refund) MAY be granted ONLY if your spot can be filled - No refunds or credits after attending 1st class - Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes Student Open Studio Hours: Monday - Thursday: 10AM - 6PM Friday - Sunday: 10AM - 9PM Hours subject to change upon five days' notice
