Fine Art Underglazing with Sheila Chen
Saturday, December 20 - Enrollment Now Open!
Class Description
Saturday, December 20 from 11AM-1:30PM **Note: This workshop is for current Clayroom members only** Celebrate the season with a creative ceramics experience! In this exclusive members only workshop, you’ll learn fine art painting techniques using underglaze to decorate a custom ceramic piece inspired by your favorite pet, or any subject that speaks to you. Bring along a photo of your pet (or another animal or design for inspiration), and Sheila will guide you step-by-step through sketching, painting, and layering color on a pre-made bisqueware ceramic piece. Whether you’re still at the beginning of your clay journey have extensive experience, this class offers a relaxed and supportive environment to explore detailed underglaze painting. Underglaze, tools, glaze and firing is included. Please bring one bisqueware piece to decorate (ornament, plate, cup, mug, etc.) and inspiration images. Sheila Chen is a San Diego based artist, dog mom to two rescues (Hef and Sierra), and mom to two busy kiddos. Her love for animals runs deep - so much so that her child’s very first word was “doggy-ah!” A military spouse and business owner to boot, Sheila somehow balances it all with a smile (and a lot of coffee). When she’s wearing her artist hat, you’ll find her painting pet portraits in her backyard studio or handmade mugs thrown by beloved Clayroom San Mateo member Kristine Chen. When the mom hat goes on, she and her crew are off exploring museums, parks, and every dog-friendly trail they can find. IG: @sheilachenart
