Faceted+Altered Bowls with Dwayne Sackey

We are so excited to welcome Dwayne Sackey to Clayroom for a one-day workshop! Join Dwayne as he delves into faceting, altering, and decorating tea bowls. Materials, glazes, and firing are included with registration. FREE artist talk: Saturday, August 9 from 10:30-11AM Workshop: Saturday, August 9 from 11:15 AM to 6:15 PM (with 1 hour lunch break) This workshop is geared towards those who throw at an intermediate level. As potters, we spend our first years on the wheel trying to throw forms that are uniform. Ironically, the better we get at doing so, the more we yearn for the dynamism of irregularity, for something that has a sense of movement. This hands-on workshop will explore how to capture the rhythm of the wheel within your forms, and how to use it to bring gesture and movement to your pieces even when the wheel stops spinning. Students will learn how to throw, shape, and alter their forms in one fluid process, and how Dwayne uses faceting as a tool for gesture and rhythm. Off the wheel, Dwayne will also cover how he approaches surfaces, applying thick porcelain slip to create a more expressive surface texture. Finishing considerations for faceted and textured work will be discussed, and there will be time allotted for a Q&A session and general group discussion.
