Clay as Canvas: Surface Decoration

Class Description

Thursdays @ 3:00 - 5:30 pm, May 9 - June 13 with Alissa Mittl Are you ready to take your pottery decoration to the next level? Look no further! This six week intensive surface design course will help you develop your grasp of a variety of surface techniques. Students will learn how to achieve rich, dynamic decorative ceramics through the use of mishima, sgraffito, underglazes, water etching, wax resist, stamps, and more! Students are highly encouraged to bring a sketchbook to class. Week 1: Approaching the clay surface Week 2: Basic techniques: stamping, sgraffito, mishima, wax resist & more Week 3: Basic techniques continued: templates, underglaze gradients, rice paper transfers, slip trailing & more Week 4: Combining multiple techniques to advance your design Week 5: Workday, Demos as needed Week 6: Glaze Fest! Policies

Class Fees & Schedule: - Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and kiln firings - Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay - Classes are subject to change if the minimum student quota (7) isn't met - Class switches will only be available one week prior to the commencement of classes and are based on the capacity of classes at time of request Attendance: - It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first class - No “make-up” classes are given but drop-in's are welcome in another class if space permits - For adult classes, participants must be at least 14 years of age Personal Belongings: - Any items left behind 30 days after the final class meeting may be discarded without notice Refund Policy: - Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable - Refund or credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a cancellation request is received at least TWO WEEKS prior to the start of class - Cancellation requests 48 hours or less than to start class, a credit (no refund) MAY be granted ONLY if your spot can be filled - No refunds or credits after attending 1st class - Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes Student Open Studio Hours: Monday - Thursday: 10AM - 6PM Friday - Sunday: 10AM - 9PM Hours subject to change upon five days' notice
